Research Documents & Records
Robert H. Latta’s Memorandum Book
The founding document of this entire project: 28 handwritten pages of names, marriages, and family notes compiled by Robert H. Latta as he worked out the branch-numbering system this site still uses. A representative entry: “Charles S. Latta, born Feb. 18, 1820. Married Dec. 22, 1852,” alongside notes on Anna D. Latta (daughter of Charlotte Latta, Branch 45, family 7) and a marriage recorded at the “Old Swedish Church” in Wilmington, Delaware. The full 28-page transcription is available from the editor on request.
Pennsylvania Latta Research
An account of a research trip to Pennsylvania, where the author and her sister Charlene pooled findings with fellow researchers Sharon Crouser and Betty Kitchen to confirm details of John Latta, the founding ancestor of Branch 17, who lived in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
Early Latta Ancestors
A structured chart of the earliest documented Latta ancestors across all branches, tracking given name, birthplace, birth date, spouse, marriage date, death date, place, parents’ names, branch number, and source. The chart opens with William Latta of Donegal, Ireland (b. abt. 1761, m. Ann Jackson, Branch 13) and his son John William Latta (b. New York City, Aug. 11, 1782, m. Susannah Pitman, Nov. 17, 1800).
US Female Lattas Born Prior to 1850
A dedicated spreadsheet tracking Latta women born before 1850 — often the hardest records to trace, since married women’s maiden names were rarely preserved in official records. Entries include name, census year, birthplace, age, residence, county, parents’ names, spouse, and branch number — for example, “Abbey Ursula,” recorded in the 1850 census as born 1836/7 in Bronson, Branch County, Michigan, daughter of D. T. and Elizabeth Latta.
Miscellaneous Information & Obituaries
A running collection of obituaries and family notices too recent or too individual to fold into a branch page directly — including Iva Irene Latta (Pickering) of Parkhill, Ontario, who passed away November 24, 2002, widow of the late William “Bill” Latta (d. 1984).
